This was a form study project at my university. The task was to make a monolite sculpture based on three keywords. The first keyword had to be a human attribution, the second one an emotion and the third one a physical property.
My keywords were: analytic, fear, soft,
My research and its results were based on personal experiments.
Human Attribution: Analytic
Dividing into elemental parts or basic principals.
Emotion: Fear
A very unpleasant or disturbing feeling caused by the presence or imminence of danger.
I tried to understand and analyze the feeling by my own experiences.
Physical property: Soft
Yielding to pressure or weight.
I found it nice how a different material, like marble, can express the softness of fabric.
I realized that if I extract the "flesh" from sculptures, the movements and feelings are still recognizable.
soft + fear
After I recognized that fabric could express feelings without the body or the face, the next step was making some individual experiments to express fear in different ways, by typical movements.
soft + fear + analytic
Leave just the principle parts.
The process of abstraction.
